Tiger Fueling Station

The Tiger Fueling Station in Fowler

The implementation of the Tiger Fuel Station at the Fowler Center is one of the first steps the Sewanee Athletic Department is taking to better provide for student-athletes on campus. It has been a main turning point in a movement led by the University’s director of athletics John Shackelford that is focused on providing student-athletes with more accessible resources. Its opening occurred in March of 2023 and has since been available to all athletes across Sewanee’s 24 varsity sports.

The Fuel Station is stocked with items such as yogurt, coconut water, protein shakes, Powerade, and Body Armor. Occasionally, McClurg Dining Hall is not open or easily accessible following athletic events, especially those that end late at night. Because of this, the purpose of the Tiger Fuel Station is to provide an alternative food and refreshment option for athletes, specifically after a practice, game, or lifting session.

Additionally, its central location within the Fowler Center is beneficial because of its proximity to facilities and equipment that sports teams typically use such as the weight room, indoor track, indoor tennis courts, and indoor pool. The Fuel Station is open to athletes who are both in-season and out-of-season. This improvement on behalf of the Sewanee Athletic Department shows the dedication of its staff to improving the well-being of the University’s athletes. As renovations in the Fowler Center continue to be made, it will be exciting to see how the Fuel Station and other aspects of the athletic department evolve in efforts to empower student-athletes.
